Kid’s are bound to love the Miami MetroZoo, or Zoo Miami as it’s now called– with over 2,000 animals, the park is guaranteed to keep your little ones entertained, and awed, for the whole day. The zoo is the only tropical zoo in the U.S., and is home to the oldest zoological garden in Florida. The zoo is broken up into four main exhibits:Asia, Africa, the Amazon and Beyond, and Australia. Koalas, crocodiles,orangutans, and rhinos can all be found here, and the zoo even features a children’s section where kids can get up close and personal with some of the smaller (and tamer) animals.

The Miami Children’s Museum offers kids a fantastic chance to learn and explore; it’s fourteen galleries are full of interactive and educational exhibits. Let them explore sandcastles in the Castle of Dreams, or enter the Safety Zone where they can dress up as a police man or ‘drive’ a fire truck to save the day. Take a trip to the Bank Gallery for a chance to teach your kids about spending and saving money. They’ll be having so much fun they won’t even realize they’re learning.

Jungle Island is a truly unique and fascinating experience. Let your kids get up-close and personal with tropical birds in replicated natural habitats. Don’t let the name fool you– you’ll find more than just parrots here. The park hosts a whole variety of animals; you can find everything from baboons to flamingos at Parrot Jungle Island. Just be sure to keep a clear distance of the skunks!
The park puts on a variety of entertaining shows including the Wild Encounter featuring tigers and leopards, and exhibits such as Kangaroo Konnection where kids can hang out with the park’s cuddly kangaroos!
Admission is $32.95 for children 11 and up as well as for adults. Children 3-10 can enter for $24.95 and children ages 2 and under are free.
Located on the island of Virginia Key in Biscayne Bay, this oceanarium is home to fish, sharks, sea turtles, and a wide variety of other marine animals. The most famous animal at the park is a giant killer whale, otherwise known as “Lolita,” who captures everyone’s hearts at the park’s Killer Whale and Dolphin Show.
Another popular park experience is the Dolphin Encounter, an amazing program that allows participants to swim and interact with the dolphins.
The park is open daily from 9:30am and closes at 6:00pm with the box office closing at 4:30pm.
Entry admission prices: $37.95 for adults and $27.95 for children ages 3-9.
The Everglades Safari Park allows visitors to experience this unique habitat and its wildlife on a small private airboat as your tour guide describes the complexities of this amazing ecosystem. In addition to the airboat ride, there is also a wildlife show, and a walking trail featuring crocodile exhibits. The tours last around 30-40 minutes.
Adults: $23.00 Children 5-11: $10.00 and Children under age 5 are free.
Don’t miss the star presentations featured daily in the museum’s planetarium, and on the first Friday of every month, laser light shows are held there. There are over 10 exhibits to explore here and there is also a raptor wildlife center. Perhaps most fascinating is the Weintraub Observatory– home to two massive Meade Telescopes. The planetarium show is free after the observatory session on the first of every month. The powerful telescopes allow you to catch a once in a life time glimpse of the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn.

If your kids liked the sound Parrot Jungle Island, then get excited, because Monkey Jungle is a 30 acre reserve that is home to nearly 400 primates, with about 30 species (many of them endangered) represented. You can take a training session with the ape trainer as you’re introduced to the Orag Utan family and get the chance to feed the monkeys. Be sure not to miss the Gorillas at this truly unique park!

Gold Coast Railroad Museum is your must- stop for historical trains and railroad cars. Kids will be awed by these old steel monsters, and the museum allows for guests to board the trains as well as get involved in many interactive exhibits. The museum also hosts several exciting and kid-friendly events including A Day Out With Thomas and their Spooky Halloween event.
Admisison is $6.00 for adults and children ages 12 and up, and $4.00 for children 3-12. The museum is open weekdays 10:00 am-4:00 pm and weekends 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Located in Coral Gables, this 820,000 gallon pool is filled with spring water from an underground aquifer that is drained daily. The pool’s beauty is enhanced by two gorgeous waterfalls and cave-like grottos. You won’t be able to bring your littlest ones here- children under three are not allowed. However, kids and parents alike will love the beautiful setting, the cool water, and a chance to play and relax in the sun. Bring your sun gear, perhaps a deck of cards or some swim toys, and enjoy spending some quality family time at this beautiful pool.

10. Miami Duck Tour
We’re a fan of wacky, fun tours– and we think your kids will be too. The duck tour departs every day from South Beach, and is a 90 minute narrated tour of Miami’s best landmarks. The tour is both on land and in the water, and kids will surely get a kick out of the tour guide’s crazy jokes and goofy personality as well as the thrill of taking the boat through the water. And yes–“quacking” is encouraged.
