Where to Get Miami’s Best BBQ this Labor Day
When asked to describe the Miami food scene, BBQ most likely won’t be on the top of anyone’s list. Although this southern favorite is not what make’s Miami’s dining scene famous, sometimes you just have to have it. Labor Day weekend is one of those times when a good pulled pork sandwich and a side of baked beans is just what you need.
While you’re on vacation and may not be able to host your own BBQ, we wanted to give you the inside scoop on a few Miami’s best BBQ joints. Here are 4 restaurants that made the cut:
Named one of the “Top Ten new BBQ Restaurants” in Bon Appetit magazine, Bulldog Barbecue boasts that they’re cooking up “treats so tasty your glands will salivate.” This no-frills bbq joint is run by Top Chef Miami’s Howie Kleinberg, whose inspiration for his BBQ joint came from the summers he used to spend in North Carolina when he was younger.
You’ll find much more than just your traditional BBQ menu items here. Bulldog offers a variety of snacks, including a tasty white chili and crispy pigs in blankets. For lighter fare try one of the 5 salads they offer on their menu. Our two cents? Try their pulled pork or St. Louis style ribs. Choose from a wide selection of fixin’s and you’ll have yourself a meal worth raving about. Don’t forget to try one of their famous champagne cocktails!

This local bBQ favorite is only open Wednesday-Saturday, but their cheap prices and delicious food keeps BBQ enthusiasts lining up for a meal from Bo Leg’s . Located in the parking lot of Foxy Lady Laundry, Bo Leg’s definitely isn’t fine dining, but their BBQ is so delicious you’re going to want to make a return trip. Yelp voters rated it as some of the “best BBQ they’ve ever had!” We couldn’t agree more.

North Miami Beach in the Foxy Lady Laundry parking lot (about 20 minutes from Eloquence)
Rated 4 1/2 out of 5 stars by Yelp users, The Pit BBQ insists that when it comes to BBQ, they deliver up the “good home cooking” you’re looking for. Their blackjack oak basting sauce and their huge portions make The Pit shine in Miami’s BBQ scene. This place has some serious history– the BBQ joint dates all the way back to 1965, and is still a local favorite today.
Be sure to stop in for Friday night happy hour from 5:00-7:00pm – 2 for 1 draft beer and live music!
The Pit likes to keep things simple. Choose from their BBQ Pork , baby back ribs, beef, or chicken dinners, and start your meal off right with one of their “pit starts.” Sweet corn on the cob anyone? If you’re dining with the family, they offer a variety of family size portions and a kid’s menu as well.

Shorty’s is somewhat of a legend here in Miami. From sandwiches to brisket, platters to ribs, finished of with wide array of side dishes, Shorty’s has everything you’re looking for in a classic BBQ joint. Everything on their menu is juicy and tender- just like it should be- and their coleslaw is simply to die for.
